WELCOME TO THE 2012 LANGLEY CREW SEASON!

Langley Crew kicks off the 2012 season with the Winter Mandatory Meeting on Wednesday, February 1st. This will be your opportunity to support your child by volunteering at the regattas on the beautiful and picturesque Occoquan River. The Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association’s (VASRA) Regatta system simply would not work without parental volunteer support.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
VASRA requires each of its member schools to provide volunteers to staff various functions at each regatta to maintain a safe, competitive and fun environment on race day. These positions range from driving a launch to working the concession stand with everything in between, including setting up and taking down the course, timing the races, driving the shuttle van, working the parking lot, and the list goes on. Each Langley Crew family is required to volunteer for at least one regatta.

VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION
Volunteer registration is quick and easy. Just log into the Team Pages website and click on the VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENTS link listed on the left. Descriptions of Langley’s required positions are listed for each regatta. Check your calendar, choose a position, and then sign up at the Winter Mandatory Meeting on Wednesday, February 1st. Varsity parents will be available to answer all of your questions.

HELPFUL HINTS
Naturally, you want to see your child race. So, keep in mind that certain positions, like driving a launch, offer the best view in the house. Also, you may want to consider timing your shift to be opposite of your child’s race schedule. For example, if your child is a novice, you may want to register for a position with morning hours. Novice frequently rows in the afternoon. Varsity often rows in the morning, so an afternoon shift means you can watch your child race before your shift begins.

ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Keep in mind that the most popular regatta positions fill up quickly. Additional opportunities include workdays on the Occoquan and Crew Camp during spring break. Act now to fulfill your volunteer requirement and share your child’s crew experience. Support the passion to row!
